Brief History

Dimerix was established in 2004 to commercialise a GPCR drug discovery platform based on the phenomenon of GPCR heteromerisation, or the ability of GPCRs to form higher-order complexes of GPCRs.

The laboratory of Professor Karin Eidne and Associate Professor Kevin Pfleger, located at the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR), developed novel methods of detecting the ability of GPCRs to form heteromer complexes and an ability to determine whether certain downstream intracellular signals were modified when ligands bind to a GPCR complex.

Over the past two years, Dimerix has worked closely with Associate Professor Darren Kelly at the University of Melbourne’s Department of Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital.  A/Professor Kelly has been assisting Dimerix’s efforts to validate the company’s novel combination therapies for treatment of renal conditions. This successful collaboration has enabled Dimerix to progress its first therapeutic product towards human clinical trials planned to commence in 2012.

Dimerix received early investment capital from Starpharma Limited, an ASX-listed company, and from venture capital funds Foundation Capital, the Murdoch-Westscheme Enterprise Partnership and Stoneridge Ventures.
